PSS Asia has been awarded the total Turnaround Management of Major Shutdown Maintenance

PSS Asia has been awarded the total Turnaround Management of Major Shutdown Maintenance for BFPL’s Ammonia Plant in Karratha, WA.. The Shutdown was scheduled to begin on 1 July 2008 and resume Plant production on 17July 2008. Operations reserved handover to maintenance of the facilities from 3 July 2008 and to Turnover back on 15 July 2008. PSS Asia had its schedule for Pre-Turnaround mobilization of Cribs & Office facilities by 15 June 2008 and Supervisors and Pre-Turnaround crew by 20 June 2008. Scaffolding work was planned to start from 1 June 2008.

All the tools & special equipment was ordered and delivered to site by 29 June 2008 and all personnel were set to begin on 1 July 2008. Unfortunately, due to a gas explosion at the Apache operated Gas facility on Varanus Island in Northwest WA, the gas supply was cut off and the Plant was Shutdown on 3 June 2008. BFPL declared the Shutdown start date is brought forward and Contractors were advised to mobilize as soon as possible to begin the Shutdown maintenance one month earlier than planned.

PSS Asia contacted various Sub-contractors in light of the emergency mobilization and managed to source the quality and quantity of manpower to meet the requirements of the Plant’s Maintenance Schedule. All employees and contractors were provided with Site Safety and Shutdown specific Inductions, which accredited them with a Blue Card and various other Nationally Accredited Training for ‘Working at Heights’, and ‘Confined Space’ etc.. PSS Asia successfully completed Major Shutdown Maintenance of the largest Ammonia plant in Australia, on schedule Managing more than 12 Sub-contracting Companies with a peak manpower of 260 personnel without any lost time incident.
